Andre Akpan and Tony Cascio led the Colorado Rapids to a 3-0 victory on Wednesday night. Akpan scored in the sixth minute of the game, while Cascio and Jaime Castrillon scored the other two goals for the Rapids (9-17-2). Cascio was stripped of the ball in the scoring zone, which led to Akpan's first goal of the season in just his second start.
With the win, Colorado leapfrogged past the Timbers and Chivas USA into seventh place in the West.
Conor Casey was out this game nursing a knee injury, so it was important for the younger players to step up for the team.
"At this level, all you can ask for is opportunity," Akpan said after the game. "Tonight I made the most of my opportunity."
