The Colorado Rapids, losers of their last matches, travel to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps, losers of their last five matches, on Sunday as the sliding Whitecaps try to hold on to the fifth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Rapids have lost nine straight road games, which is a franchise record. The previous record was seven road losses in a row; a 1-0 loss to the Portland Timbers on Aug. 31 set the new mark, and a 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sept. 14 extended it.

The Whitecaps' five-match losing streak has pushed them to the brink of missing the playoffs. Vancouver is one point ahead of FC Dallas for the fifth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

In an effort to spark the Whitecaps, head coach Martin Rennie will likely start forward Darren Mattocks instead of bring him off the bench, MLSsoccer.com's Martin MacMahon reported. Mattocks, a speedy 22-year-old Jamaican, was named No. 1 in the MLS's 24 Under 24 rankings released Friday.

The Rapids and the Whitecaps kick off Sunday at 5:30 p.m. MT. The game will be televised locally on ALTITUDE.
