Rapids Vs. Sporting KC Final Score: Colorado Falls 2-0 In Open Cup

The Colorado Rapids caught some bad luck on Tuesday night in losing to Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Sporting KC advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament thanks in part to an own goal by Colorado keeper Matt Pickens that followed a remarkable save. Pickens made a stop on Aurelien Collin’s header that followed a long free kick from Graham Zusi. Pickens got a hand on the header to block the shot, but the ball bounced off the post and into the net to give KC a 1-0 lead.

Teal Bunbury would make it 2-0 KC in the 79th minute off a headed assist from teammate C.J. Sapong. It was Bunbury's third goal in two meetings with Colorado this season.

KC will face the Dayton Dutch Lions in the quarterfinals of the tournament on June 26.
