The Colorado Rapids had defeated the Montreal Impact just two days ago in regular season MLS action, but tired legs weren't a factor as the Rapids earned a 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday. The victory is the first for the Rapids in the tournament since 2010.
Edu got the scoring started for Colorado in the 17th minute on a penalty kick. Andre Akpan would add another goal in the 33rd minute to put Colorado ahead permanently.

For the Rapids' final goal of the night, Akpan found Kamani Hill in extra time. Moments later, Tampa Bay would finally get on the board when Matt Clare deat Rapids goalkeeper Steward Ceus.
The Rapids will now travel to play Sporting Kansas City on June 5. Kansas City defeated Orlando City S.C. 3-2 on Tuesday.
