Omar Cummings left the Rapids' previous match against the New England Revolution with a sprained ankle after being taken down hard after making a long run up the field in the 71st minute. The injury was more serious than originally expected and has kept Cummings from practice the past week.
Via the Rapids' Twitter, Cummings did not fly to Salt Lake with the rest of the team and will not play tomorrow in the first Rocky Mountain Cup match against arch-rivals Real Salt Lake.
The Rapids being without arguably their best striker against one of the elite teams in the league is not going to help at all. He will most likely be replaced in the starting line up by Mac Kandji, the recently acquired former New York Red Bulls striker. Gary Smith may also shift to the old 4-5-1 formation used by Colorado for most of the first half of the season in order to play more defensive football against Real Salt Lake.
