One constant on the Colorado Buffaloes' coaching staff over the two-plus decades has been linebackers coach Brian Cabral, who has been on the staffs of the last five CU head football coaches. With yet another new coach, Mike MacIntyre, hired last week to replace Jon Embree, Cabral's status with the new staff is up in the air, but he could find out where he stands as soon as Thursday, according to buffzone.com.
Cabral just finished his 23rd season coaching on the Buffaloes' staff, the sixth longest current tenure of any coach in the country. He also played for the Buffaloes in the 1970s and is the school's all-time leading tackler before going on to a nine-year NFL career.
Cabral has been on the staffs of Colorado head coaches Bill McCartney, Rick Neuheisel, Gary Barnett, Dan Hawkins and Embree. He's served brief stints as interim coach twice, 2004 and 2012.
MacIntyre is expected to make decisions regarding his coaching staff when he returns to Boulder on Thursday. That staff could include coaches he brings over from San Jose State, members of Embree's staff or outside hires.
