Stanford vs. Colorado 2012: Buffaloes hit new low

The Colorado Buffaloes' 48-0 loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday was the worst in a string of five consecutive blowout defeats, says Ralphie Report's Jon Woods.

Colorado was outgained in the contest, 436 total yards to 76. At least some of the blame has to fall on head coach Jon Embree, whom Woods has defended over the course of the season. That isn't the case anymore:

All year I have been adamant that under no circumstances should Jon Embree and this staff be fired. That opinion has changed. I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that improvement is coming, and that's all that I've asked for out of this season.

The loss to Stanford marked the first time the Buffs have been shut out at home since 1986. Over its past five games, Colorado has been outscored by an average of 52-10. It's a historically bad stretch that doesn't elicit much hope out of Boulder.

The Buffaloes have hit rock bottom, purchased furniture, and plan on staying awhile.

Colorado has a road game against Arizona and home games against Washington and Utah to close out the season. At least the Buffs can hang their hats on the fact that they won't go winless -- for the season, or in conference play -- thanks to a win at Washington State on Sept. 22.
