The University of Denver hockey team was predicted to finish third in the annual 94X WCHA preseason media poll that was released Wednesday.
The defending WCHA MacNaughton Cup champions Minnesota Golden Gophers were the nearly-unanimous pick to win the league again with North Dakota receiving one first place vote and coming in at second.
Denver also have two players on the All-WCHA Preseason Team in the forms of defeseman Joey LaLeggia and goaltender Sam Brittain, who shared the nod with Colorado College's Josh Thorimbert.
The Colorado College Tigers were predicted to come in seventh place behind the likes of Wisconsin, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.
This will be the final season for the University of Denver and Colorado College in the WCHA. Both teams will be moving to the newly-formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference with play expected to begin for the first time during the 2013-2014 season. The Colorado schools will be joined by Miami University, Minnesota-Duluth, University of Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan in the conference.
