The Colorado College Tigers dropped their first game of the season on Saturday, losing a 3-1 decision to the UMass-Lowell River Hawks at World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
UMass-Lowell's Joseph Pendenza scored the go-ahead goal a little more than seven minutes into the third period, and Stephen Buco added an empty-net insurance goal with just 30 seconds left in the game. Aaron Harstad scored Colorado College's lone goal, beating River Hawks goaltender Doug Carr on a wrist shot to tie the game at one apiece at the 13:25 mark in the second period.
Tigers netminder Josh Thorimbert was busy throughout the game, seeing 39 shots on goal from the visiting squad. Thorimbert stopped 36 of them, but it wasn't enough to beat Carr, who only let one of Colorado College's 28 shots to get through.
The Eagles will be back on the ice on Friday against the Cornell Big Red in Ithaca, N.Y.
