After Colorado State quarterback Pete Thomas found the end zone on a four-yard run to cap the first drive of the game, the Rams and the Colorado Buffaloes were unable to do much of anything in the rest of the quarter. Neither team could get the ball out of their own territory and kept punting. The second quarter, however, saw the Buffs open things up for a touchdown lead at halftime, 14-7.
After exchanging punts on the first two possessions of the second quarter, the Buffs were the team that found a rhythm on their second drive. Tyler Hansen connected on two passes to Toney Clemons and Rodney Stewart for a combined 23 yards. A couple of plays later, Rodney Stewart busted out on two runs for 12 yards and 17 yards.
At the Rams' 11-yard line, Stewart picked up three yards on the ground and then found six in the air. On 3rd-and-1, Hansen punched the ball in for the rushing touchdown and a tie game at seven. That wasn't the end of the scoring. After forcing the Rams to punt once again, Hansen managed the clock with two minutes to go and had a key 20-yard pass to Rodney Stewart and a 19-yard run to get midway into Colorado State territory. But the Buffs went to 3rd-and-10 following that. Hansen then made a nice 24-yard pass to Kyle Cefalo for the touchdown and lead.
