Cal Vs. Colorado Final Score: Paul Richardson Has Career Receiving Day For Buffs, But Loses To Cal, 36-33

The Colorado Buffaloes couldn't quite escape with the victory over the California Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon at Folsom Field. The Buffs tied the game at 30 with 30 seconds left in the game, sending things to overtime. The Buffs started overtime with the ball and saw Rodney Stewart bring them to the Cal four-yard line following rushes of nine and 12 yards. Stewart was denied on the next two rushes and Tyler Hansen was unable to find Paul Richardson in the end zone. Will Oliver kicked the field goal for the temporary 33-30 lead.

Cal was burned by two penalties (five- and 10-yards) in their drive, but on 1st-and-30, Zach Maynard found Keenan Allen for a 32-yard gain and the first down. Maynard and Allen found each other a couple plays later for a five-yard touchdown and the 36-30 victory.

This was a tough game for both teams and beset by numerous penalties and questionable calls by the officials. The Buffs had 13 penalties for 103 yards, Cal five for 50 yards.

Buffs quarterback Tyler Hansen and wide receiver Paul Richardson each had career days. Hansen passed for 474 yards and three touchdowns on 28-of-49 passing. Richardson tallied a school record 284 receiving yards on 11 receptions. He also caught two touchdowns, the first for 66 yards and the second for 78 yards.

Cal plays Presbyterian Blue Hose next weekend. The 0-2 Buffs have their annual showdown with the 2-0 Colorado St. Rams at Folsom Field, where Colorado wants to avoid falling to 0-2 on the season.
