The same week they moved up to the No. 3 ranking in the Coaches poll, the BYU Cougars gained the No. 1 RPI ranking as well. On Saturday, they beat the San Diego St. Aztecs, who dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in RPI. The Kansas Jayhawks dropped from the top spot to No. 2 and the Ohio St. Buckeyes moved up one spot to No. 3. The Duke Blue Devils, despite losing to Virginia Tech, completed the top five.
Outside of BYU and San Diego St., the Mountain West Conference has two more teams in the top 50. UNLV checks in at No. 26 and the Colorado St. Rams are ranked 47th, both places unchanged from last week.
The Colorado Buffaloes' 91-89 victory over the Texas Longhorns jumped the Buffs from No. 93 to No. 77 this week. It was a huge win that will help them as they are a bubble team for the tournament right now.
The Northern Colorado Bears moved from No. 121 to No. 114. On a three-game win streak and winners in six of their last seven games, the Bears have the best in-conference record right now and eyes on the top seed in the Big Sky conference tournament. The Montana Grizzlies are one spot ahead of the Bears.
