It's been a difficult year for the Colorado Buffaloes (1-9), to say the least. It's the sort of season that can lead to scapegoating even in the first year of a head coach's tenure. And whether or not that is the case here, head coach Jon Embree expressed appreciation for offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and defensive coordinator Greg Brown on Tuesday.
The Buffs rank 11th in the Pac-12 in total offense and 95th overall; they're 11th in the Pac-12 in total defense and 101st overall. Why the satisfaction from Embree?
"I know our numbers don't reflect certain things. But I do think Eric and Greg have done a good job in getting systems installed, getting it taught.
"I guess the encouraging thing is, (the struggles are) more of us getting beat in a match-up situation than us making a mental mistake."
That's a gentle way of saying "we're short on talent." Embree realizes that production is as much a reflection of the players on hand as it is the coaches, and as far as he's concerned, it's not his coaches who are behind the rest of the Pac-12.
