Rick Neuheisel Fired But Will Coach UCLA Bruins In Pac-12 Championship Game

If one were looking for something awkward on Monday, turn those eyes to the UCLA Bruins. Head coach Rick Neuheisel was fired on Monday, but he will coach the Bruins in the Pac-12 Championship Game on Friday. And should the Bruins pull off a major upset over the Oregon Ducks in that game, Neuheisel won't be coaching the team in the Rose Bowl. Offensive coordinator Mike Johnson has been named the interim coach for that game should the impossible happen.

Awk-ward.

Colorado Buffaloes fans should be familiar with Neuheisel. He led the Buffs to a 33-14 record in four seasons, including two 10-2 seasons with victories in the Cotton and Holiday bowls (1995 and 1996, respectively). In his final season, Neuheisel rebounded from a 5-6 season in 1997 to go 8-4 and win the Aloha Classic in 1998. He moved on to the Washington Huskies in 1999 and was done with them in 2002. He returned to coaching when he took over UCLA in 2008. He owns a 21-28 record with one game remaining.
