Colorado's Alec Burks Named To 2010-2011 Naismith Preseason Watch List

The Colorado Buffaloes' guard Alec Burks was recently named to the 2010-2011 Naismith Preseason Watch List, an award given out to the best player in college basketball. The 6-foot-6 sophomore has had a solid start to the season in the Buffs' two games so far. He's averaging 20.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game so far, but is only shooting 37 percent from the field. But it's too early to make much out of nothing.

Among Colorado's fellow Big 12 teams, Missouri's Kim English, Kansas' Marcus Morris and Kansas State's Jacob Pullen were also named to the Naismith Watch List. In the Air Force and Colorado State's conference, the Mountain West, San Diego State's Kawhi Leonard was the only player named to the list.

Former Ohio State Buckeye, Evan Turner, won the 2010 Naismith Award and was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers second overall in the June draft.

No CU player has ever won the Naismith Award, which first was awarded in 1969.
