Buffaloes Quarterback Tyler Hansen Ruptures Spleen, Done For The Season

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Tyler Hansen had to leave yesterday's loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders with what was reported as bruised ribs at the time. We have now learned that Hansen suffered a ruptured spleen and had to spend Saturday night at the hospital and will now miss the rest of the 2010 season.

Hansen was 9-10 for 62 yards before the injury. After being named the starter for the Buffs in the offseason, the junior quarterback completed 68% of his passes on the year throwing for 1,102 yards with six touchdowns, six interceptions.

Hansen led the Buffs to a 3-1 start but CU has lost the last three. After playing one of his better games at Colorado against Georgia, CU coaches pulled Hansen in the second half of the Missouri game in favor of Cody Hawkins. Hansen was 15-21 against the Tigers before the switch.

Senior QB Cody Hawkins will now be re-inserted into the starting spot to finish out the remainder of the season. His first start of the year will come against the Oklahoma Sooners on the road next weekend. The Sooners will be highly motivated after losing to Missouri this past weekend. In 2007, Cody Hawkins led the Buffs to a major upset over the #3 Oklahoma Sooners but playing in Norman, OK is a different beast.
