2012 IIHF World Hockey Championship, Russia Vs. Slovakia Final Score: Semyon Varlamov, Russia Defeat Slovakia, 6-2, For Gold Medal

Team Russia has gone a perfect 10-0-0 in the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championship after defeating Team Slovakia, 6-2, in the gold medal game on Sunday. Russia scored five unanswered goals at one point to score the victory.

Slovakia took the 1-0 lead just over one minute into play when Zdeno Chara put one past Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov. Almost nine minutes later, Alexander Semin, with the help of Alexander Ovechkin and Pavel Datsyuk, scored the first of five straight goals for Russia.

However, the Russian didn't get on the board again until the second period. Alexander Perezhogin and Alexei Tereshenko scored the first two Russian goals of that frame while Semin came up with his second goal of the game almost two minutes after Tereshenko's.

In the third period, Datsyuk netted a goal almost four minutes into play. Chara picked up his second goal on the power play almost 10 minutes into the period. Evgeni Malkin neutralized that with his 11th goal of the tournament.

Varlamov made 29 stops on 31 shots.
