Presswire

The Colorado Avalanche signed Minnesota Golden Gophers goalie Kent Patterson on Wednesday night, according to Renaud P. Lavoie of RDS. The two-way contract is for two years and worth $1.25 million:

Patterson just wrapped up a four-year career at Minnesota in April, reaching the Frozen Four but losing to eventual tournament champion Boston College in the semifinals. He didn't become the team's starter until his junior season in 2010-11. He went 14-9-6 with a 2.49 GAA in 30 games (28 starts). He followed that up with an impressive senior year, starting all 43 games the team played. He went 28-14-1 with a 2.32 GAA and seven shutouts.

Patterson was originally was 2007 fourth-round draft pick by the Avalanche and they now add another goalie to a situation that is close to seeing Calvin Pickard ready to make the NHL.
