The Colorado Avalanche are just two points out of eighth place in the Western Conference and three out of seventh, but their playoff odds appear to be slim because time is working against them. Colorado -- which sits in 10th place -- has just two games to play, while the teams in seventh through ninth have three left. And according to one site that handicaps the playoff race, that puts the Avs in some poor shape:
According to sportsclubstats.com, the Avs have a 5.1 percent chance of making the playoffs. Essentially what has to happen is: the Avs have to win their final two games and have the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks each go 1-2 in their final three games.
Colorado closes out its regular season with home games against Columbus and Nashville.
