Avalanche Vs. Coyotes Score Update: Phoenix Maintains 3-0 Lead

The Phoenix Coyotes have extended their lead to 3-0 over the Colorado Avalanche following two periods on Thursday night. The Avalanche have gotten the shots on goal of late but simply haven't managed to get the puck into the net, and the Coyotes have been pulling away instead.

After the two sides put up an equal number of shots on goal in the first period, during which Phoenix built up a 2-0 lead, Colorado followed up in the second period by taking a 13-8 advantage on shots on goal. That unfortunately never translated into any goals, so the Avalanche now trail 3-0 with just a single period remaining after the Coyotes added an insurance goal.

It's been an impressive effort by Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith, who's 22-of-22 on save opportunities thus far. Raffi Torres scored the third goal of the night for the Coyotes, his second on the day and his 16th of the season.
