Colorado Avalanche fans won't need to put up with the team's losing ways soon enough. Following Thursday night's 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars, the Avalanche have just two games remaining on the schedule. The story for these games hasn't changed much. The Stars jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period when Tom Wandell and Louis Eriksson scored within two minutes of each other during the last five minutes of play.
Then in the second period, Brandon Yip put the Avalanche on board with his 10th goal of the season. Philippe Dupuis and Matt Duchene assisted on the goal that came at 10:15 in the period. But then in the third period, Ryan O'Byrne caused a delay of game penalty 44 seconds into play, which led to a Brendan Morrow power play goal eight seconds later. Mark Olver narrowed Dallas' lead to 3-2 when he scored his second goal of the season at 11:06. But, as always, the Stars battled back and answered with their fourth goal of the game a little over a minute later when Brad Richards netted his 27th goal of the season.
Brian Elliott drew the start for Colorado and saved 33 shots on 37 attempts. The Stars' Kari Lehtonen faced just 23 shots and saved 21 of them.
The Avalanche (29-43-8, 66 points) head back to the Pepsi Center for a Friday contest with the Stars.
