Another night, another loss for the Colorado Avalanche. This time they dropped a 5-2 decision to the Calgary Flames. Jarome Iginla and Mark Giordano scored power plays goals within 30 seconds of each other early in the first period to put the Flames up 2-0. Mark Olver scored a goal for the Avs at 7:35 in the first, but Rene Bourque answered back in the closing minute of the first period for a 3-1 Flames lead.
After a scoreless second period for both teams, Ales Kotalik and Jarome Iginla scored in a two-minute time span to put the Flames up 5-1. Cody McLeod scored a power play goal for the Avs with six seconds left in the game.
Peter Budaj made only 23 saves on 28 shots while Miikka Kiprusoff made 27 saves on 29 shots.
The Avalanche (26-36-8, 60 points) are now on a 10-game winless streak and will look to end it on Saturday when the face the Edmonton Oilers, the worst team in the league. The puck drops at 8:00 p.m. MT in Rexall Place.
