The Colorado Avalanche cut the Edmonton Oilers' two goal lead in half early in the second period, but not only would they get any closer, but the Oilers would have an even larger lead heading into the second intermission. The Avalanche got on the board thanks to Jay McClement's fifth goal of the season, which came with three and a half minutes gone in the period. But more than seven minutes later, the Oilers stretched the lead back to 3-1 on Jordan Eberle's 11th goal of the season, which came on the power play. The lead was widened to 4-1 on Sam Gagner's third goal of the season, and his second on the game.
The Oilers have cashed in two power plays tonight, out five total infractions committed by the Avs. Colorado, meanwhile, is 0-3 on the night.
