Avalanche Vs. Blues Recap: O'Reilly Powers Avs Past Blues

St. Louis Blues defenseman, and ex-first round pick of the Colorado Avalanche, Kevin Shattenkirk got the first laugh in his return to the Pepsi Center on Friday night, but it was the Avs that left the victorious after defeating the Blues 3-2 in an overtime shootout. Shattenkirk, who was traded along with forward Chris Stewart to the Blues last February for two players and a first round pick, scored the game's opening goal on Friday night to put the Blues up 1-0.

That goal was followed up in the first by Milan Hejduk, who pocketed his ninth of the season to tie the game at one. The Blues added a goal in the second to go up a goal, but the Avs tied the game once again in the third on Ryan O'Reilly's fourth goal of the season. And in overtime, it was O'Reilly, who scored the shootout's only goal, who put the Avs on top for good.
