Avalanche Vs. Stars Score Update: Avs Lead 1-0 After Commanding First Period

The Colorado Avalanche got off to a solid start on Friday night as they look to beat the Dallas Stars for the first time this season. The Avs took a 1-0 lead with 14 minutes left to play on Chuck Kobasew's third goal of the season, which came on assists from Ryan Wilson and T.J. Galiardi. Aside from the scoreboard, the Avs all but dominated the first period against the slumping Stars, putting 16 goals on net to Dallas' measly four.

The Stars are coming off of a 6-0 defeat to the Florida Panthers, which was their third loss in a row. The Avs are also on a three game slide, which is part of a bigger losing streak that encompasses seven of their last eight games. Colorado currently sits eight points back in its division, and tonight's first period is a step in the direction of getting back in the win column.
