VIDEO: Semyon Varlamov Makes Big Save Against Blackhawks In 3rd Period

The Colorado Avalanche were unable to overcome the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night, 3-1, but that can't be written off as a failure of goalie Semyon Varlamov's. This was only the second home game for the Avalanche and Ryan O'Byrne scored the first Pepsi Center goal for the team.

Varlamov did stop 27 of 29 shots and he came up with a great one late in the third period. Check out the video after the jump

Marcus Kruger stalks the right side of the net, wide open and waiting for the puck to come to him. A quick pass and a quick snap off should net him the goal into the right side of the net, but Varlamov makes a gliding save and winds up on his stomach to prevent the goal.

So far so good on the Varlamov trade, which left many around the league wondering why the Avalanche made that trade in July. Hopefully he can sustain this for an entire season.
