The Colorado Avalanche have taken control of this game against the Ottawa Senators, exploiting a porous defense to maintain pressure in the Ottawa zone.
After the first period, Colorado was outshooting the Senators by a 18-4 margin.
After the second period, that advantage was extended to 30-8. That's right, the Avalanche have held Ottawa to a total of eight shots through two periods.
Jean-Sebastien Giguere has been solid in net, though he has yet to seriously challenged.
Craig Anderson has been under fire all night, as the Avalanche continue to pepper the goalie with shots. But it took a bit of luck for Colorado to extend their lead. More than 17 minutes into the period, and still holding onto a slim one goal lead, Ryan Wilson fired a slapshot from the faceoff circle that deflected off Anderson and straight into the air. It landed directly into the crease, where a streaking Joakim Lindstrom beat the defenders to the puck and tipped it past the goalie. Lindstrom had been a healthy scratch through the first three games of the season, but has scored a significant goal in his first official game in an Avalanche sweater.
The game isn't quite over, as Ottawa has scored 11 of their season's 12 goals after the second period.
