(VIDEO) Matt Duchene's Penalty Shot During NHL All-Star Game

During Sunday's NHL All-Star Game, Colorado Avalanche center Matt Duchene finished with one goal, but he had a chance for a second one during the third period. Duchene was on the breakaway when Washington Capitals player and member of Team Staal Alex Ovechkin threw his stick at Duchene.

Duchene still got a shot off, though it deflected off the pads of goalie Henrik Lundqvist. The referee stopped play and awarded Duchene with a penalty shot. NHL.com provides the video:

This was the first penalty shot in the All-Star Game's history. Duchene skated to his left and eventually crossed in front of the net to make his attempt. He tried to backhand the puck into the net, but Lundqvist was able to get his left skate/pad in the way to block the puck. Duchene could have given Team Lidstrom an 8-7 lead, but the game remained tied at seven.

You'll get it next time, Matt!
