Florida Panthers center Stephen Weiss scored 43 seconds into overtime to send the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-3 loss. It was the Avalanche’s fourth straight loss and third overtime loss during this stretch.
Bill Thomas gave the Panthers an early lead with a goal at 1:08 in the first period. But the Avalanche answered back with two goals in the second period. John-Michael Liles scored his fifth goal of the season and the assisted on Ryan O’Reilly’s goal later in the second period.
Unfortunately, Stephen Weiss scored his first goal of the game over a minute later to end the second period at two apiece. Matt Duchene netted his ninth goal of the season at 1:59 in the third period to give the Avalanche a 3-2 lead. The lead was short-lived as David Booth scored at 4:11 to even the game.
Craig Anderson returned to net for the Avalanche after resting during the previous game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He made 21 of 24 saves. Florida’s Tomas Vokoun stopped 22 of 25 shots in the victory.
The Colorado Avalanche are 13-10-4, 30 points and are 1-6 in their last seven games. They travel to Atlanta next to face the Thrashers on Friday, Dec. 10.
