Carolina rookie phenom Jeff Skinner beat Colorado goalie Craig Anderson with a top shelf backhand shot off a rebound, and it appeared that would be enough for the Hurricanes to steal the game.
Instead, Milan Hejduk continued his rebound season with a rocket of a wrist shot that beat Carolina’s Cam Ward glove side. Rookie defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk made a beautiful pass that found Hejduk in neutral ice and Hejduk was able to beat his defenseman into the zone with six minutes left in the game.
