According to the AHL’s transaction history, the Colorado Avalanche recalled defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk today from Lake Erie. The 21-year-old defenseman was drafted by the Avalanche with the 14th selection in the 2007 draft’s first round. He made the move from the Boston University Terriers to the NHL’s minor leagues last season when he played three games for the Lake Erie Monster and assisted on two goals.
In 2010, Shattenkirk has played in 10 games, recorded no points and gained 10 penalty minutes. With Adam Foote and Kyle Cumiskey both out with concussion symptoms, the Avalanche needed a fresh defenseman on the team.
Shattenkirk hails from Greenwich, CT and has played for the United States in the World Junior Championship in 2009.
