Detroit has taken a 1-0 lead just seconds into a power play as Todd Bertuzzi’s shot went past Colorado goalie Peter Budaj.
Daniel Winnik was called for a slashing penalty at center ice, and Detroit wasted no time and took advantage of the penalty.
The game had been evenly played up to that point, with Detroit not being as crisp with their passing and the Avalanche not taking advantage of their few opportunities.
Detroit now has 12 power play goals on the season, one more than Colorado.
