The Denver Post’s Adrian Dater reports that the Colorado Avalanche have traded prospect Michael Bournival to the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Ryan O’Byrne.

O’Byrne is a 26 year old defenseman from British Columbia. He has great size and will give an immediate boost to a shorthanded Avalanche defensive corp that has been decimated by injuries. Colorado only dressed six defensemen for their last game against the Calgary Flames, four of those defensemen had less than ten games of NHL experience.
