Denver, CO (Sports Network) — Peter Budaj turned aside 33 shots to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Pepsi Center.
Chris Stewart and Peter Stastny each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won their past two games.
Derick Brassard scored the lone goal for the Blue Jackets, who had a three- game winning streak snapped. Steve Mason started in net, but was lifted in the second period as he gave up four goals on 19 shots. Mathieu Garon stopped 11- of-12 shots the rest of the way.
Colorado got on the board at the 4:14 mark of the first period when David Jones beat Mason with a wrister for his fourth goal of the season.
The Avs scored three times in the middle period to take command of the game.
On the power play, Stewart, who notched a hat trick against Calgary on Thursday, scored his ninth goal of the year just 50 seconds in.
Exactly halfway through the frame, David Liffiton scored the first goal of his NHL career on a big blast and Stastny made it a 4-0 game just 44 seconds later.
Cody McLeod scored at the 6:06 mark of the third period while Brassard broke up the shutout bid with a power-play goal at the 8:37 mark on his third marker of the season.
Colorado has off until Thursday when it will host Vancouver...Columbus hosts Montreal on Tuesday...Colorado took all four games last season after Columbus did the same in the 2008-09 campaign...Stewart has an eight-game point streak and has recorded eight goals and six assists during that time. Linemate Milan Hejduk, who notched two assists in the game, has three goals and eight assists during a six-game point streak.
