By the impossibly high standards set by Chris Petersen over the last decade, a two-loss season in 2012 is a disappointment. Since Petersen took over in 2006, the Broncos have had only one other season (2007) where they've lost more than one game.
As a result, they've developed one of the strongest brand names in college football, a name that may be helping them out with SB Nation's college football bloggers, who have them at No. 23 in the latest blog poll.
They're ranked higher than either Fresno State and San Diego State, the two teams they're currently in a three-way tie with for first place in the conference. Yet their biggest non-conference scalp (BYU) is only 7-5 and they have a loss to a Michigan State team that ended the season at 6-6.
But with two MAC teams (Northern Illinois and Kent State) ahead of them, it doesn't appear that they'll be able to sneak into the BCS this season. Instead, they're likely playing for a berth in the Las Vegas Bowl this weekend.
