Boise State Football Spring Game 2012: Joe Southwick Looks Like Starting QB

The big question entering the 2012 Boise St. Broncos' Blue and Orange spring game was who would emerge as the quarterback to fill Kellen Moore's now-vacant spot. The answer appears to be redshirt junior Joe Southwick. His only touchdown of the game provided the offense with a 22-19 victory, an 18-yard connection with Chris Potter during the last play from scrimmage. Southwick was 14-of-19 for 145 yards.

Freshman Nick Patti completed 4-of-8 passes for 60 yards and threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Troy Ware. That was Ware's only catch, while Potter led the receivers with 39 yards.

With the departure of Doug Martin, the Broncos will also be looking for a new running back. Drew Wright led the team with 32 yards on 10 carries. He and Phillip Hogan each had a rushing touchdown.

Defensively, Darian Thompson had six total tackles to lead the team while Demarcus Lawrence had five, including one tackle for a loss. Blake Renaud and Jeremy Ioane each had an interception.
