The New Mexico Lobos fell to Air Force Falcons, 28-23, on Saturday night at Falcon Stadium at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
The Lobos led 17-14 early in the third quarter following Kasey Carrier's second rushing touchdown of the game, but the Falcons would respond with 14 unanswered points and hold onto that lead for the win. Air Force led 28-17 early in the fourth quarter, with New Mexico pulling to within five points less than three minutes later following another Carrier rushing touchdown.
After a Falcons fumble at the Air Force 46, New Mexico would push the ball to the Air Force 12-yard line before a fourth-down attempt fell short with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. The Falcons, behind a strong rushing performance by Wes Cobb, would run out the clock to secure the victory.
Thanks to a tremendous game by Carrier, the Lobos would out-gain the Falcons 443-368 yards in the game, with most of the offense coming on the ground.
Box Score Hero: Despite the loss, New Mexico running back Kasey Carrier deserves much praise after putting up 338 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 39 carries.
But Did They Cover? The Falcons, expecting to win by 10-1/2 points against the Lobos, did not cover.
