The Air Force Falcons have long been rumored to be an addition to the Big East, and the conference is still hoping to add more teams, commissioner Mike Aresco said on The Chris Vernon Show Monday. The magic number for conference members is 14, and the BYU Cougars and Air Force are the two squads most likely to join.
With Syracuse and Pittsburgh opting to head for ACC country in 2013, the current eight-team conference has agreed with other members to not only meet the eight-team limit needed for BCS conferences, but to far exceed it. In 2013, the Big East will add UCF, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Temple, Boise State and San Diego State.
Navy will join the league in 2015.
Air Force, part of the crumbling Mountain West, said it wouldn't join the Big East in December of 2011, but with San Diego State and Boise State leaving holes in the MWC, the Falcons remain as an option.
