The media blackout of the Air Force falcons football program was official lifted Tuesday, and the result was a few notable items that came out of preseason camp.
First, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette's Frank Schwab, the Falcons agreed to a multiyear deal with the local radio station, 104.3 FM, to be its affiliate -- an agreement that would give head coach Troy Calhoun his own weekly show -- and starting tailback Wes Cobb was working out at fullback just in case something happens to newly-named starter Mike DeWitt.
DeWitt, a senior who gained 567 yards and scored 12 touchdowns last season, is expected to have a big season as his workload at fullback will increase.
Although Air Force split time at the position last year, coach Troy Calhoun has shown he’s willing to give one fullback a heavy load. In 2009, Jared Tew had 238 carries. Last year, Cobb and DeWitt had 217 carries combined.
All-in-all, DeWitt has individual goals but admitted its the small things that will motivate him to a big season.
"It’s everything you do – blocking, running, all that stuff – it’s getting into a rhythm, getting more reps in practice and scrimmages," DeWitt said. "I think it’s definitely going to help me feel more comfortable."
