According to The Gazette, the starting duo of Michael Lyons and Mike Fitzgerald will both be able to avoid surgery following their injuries this season. Head coach David Pilipovich reports the two starters have received the results from their recent MRIs, and both sustained "slight tears" in their shoulders.
Lyons led the Air Force Falcons (13-15, 3-11) with an impressive 15.6 points per game in the 2011-12 NCAA Season, but only managed to play 23 games as he struggled with his shoulder injury. The 6'6" guard enters his senior year next season.
Fitzgerald -- who also sustained a shoulder injury, though less severe according to the team's coach -- played 29 games in the 2011-12 season and was second only to Lyons in points per game (10.4). The guard-forward and Minnesota native Fitzgerald is also entering his senior year and should be healthy in time for the start of the season.
