2012 Air Force Baseball: Losing Streak Stretches To 4 As Falcons Drop Doubleheader

The Air Force Falcons (3-7) lost a pair of heart-breakers to the Wofford Terriers (6-4) Saturday afternoon, putting the Flacons at four-game losing streak early in the 2012 season.

Game 1: Wofford 2, Air Force 0

Starter SP Carmon White (L, 1-1) pitched a complete 6-inning game, but his strong effort proved insufficient as the Falcons offense sputtered against Wofford starter SP Cash Collins (W, 1-2). RF Jake Shomaker had two hits for the Falcons, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, but the Air Force baseball team could not string together enough hits. Collins pitched 7.0 innings, striking out 6 Falcons while allowing only 1 walk.

In White's 6.0 innings, he walked only 2 Terriers while striking out 6. White, unfortunately, could not handle 1B Konstantine Diamaduros, who cracked a triple and homer en route to a 3 for 3 showing with the game's only extra base hits.

Game 2: Wofford 5, Air Force 4

SP Evan Abrecht also gave the Falcons a strong start in the second game, going 6.0 innings with 6 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 earned run. Unfortunately, a poor showing from RP Ben Yokley (L, 0-1) -- 0.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB and 4 ER on 16 pitches -- gave Wofford a 5-4 lead.

DH Garrett Custons went 3 for 4 with a double, a stolen base and a caught stealing, but the remainder of the Falcons' offense could not muster an extra base hits, going 3 for 30 with just 1 walk. After SP Jesse Morris got roughed up for 2 ER and 4 R, the Wofford baseball team brought in SP Alex Wilson (W, 1-0) who shut the Falcons down through the 7th and 9th innings, leading to a save from RP Eric Eck (S, 2).

The Falcons will hit the diamond again on Sunday, playing against the USC Upstate Spartans at 1:00 p.m. ET.
