The Air Force Falcons started its season last week with two losses to the No. 7 LSU Tigers and a split of its series with the Alcorn St. Braves. This week, the Falcons travel farther east, North Carolina, to take on the Navy Midshipmen in the Freedom Classic 2012.
The Midshipmen are off to a 3-1 start with two victories over North Carolina A&T and once over Maryland Eastern Shore, the latter a 21-1 victory. Twelve different Midshipmen have driven in at least one run so far, led by freshman David Wiedeman's seven. Sophomore catcher Chance Jones has four hits and four RBI in two games. Friday starter Ben Nelson threw 6.2 shutout innings while striking out six and allowing three hits in his first outing of the year.
Air Force is led by Garrett Custons, the current Mountain West Player of the Week, after going 7-for-15 with four doubles and a home run over the first four games of the season. Cameron White the best start for any Falcons pitchers this season with seven innings on one-run ball. He allowed five hits i the 6-1 win over the Braves.
