The Air Force Falcons (11-8, 1-4 MWC) square off against the New Mexico Lobos (17-4, 3-2 MWC) on Tuesday night, hoping to stop their four game losing streak against a strong Lobos team.
The Falcons are fresh off heartbreaking losses coming in the final moments of their last two games as the team continues its tour of the Mountain West Conference. The Air Force offense will need strong showings from junior G Michael Lyons and junior G-F Mike Fitzgerald if they have any hopes of winning. Lyons and Fitzgerald lead the team with 14.7 and 11.2 points per game -- the only Falcons in double digits.
The defense also relies heavily on the two juniors for rebounds, but C Taylor Broekhuis (5.3 rebounds per game) will need to dominate the paint if the Falcons hope to control the dynamic senior F Drew Gordon (10.7 RPG).
If the Air Force basketball team can manage a win against the Lobos, it will only be the team's 19th win in 69 attempts since 1957, with New Mexico winning the last 9 games.
