With three of its first four games on the road in Mountain West play, Air Force knows that it needs to find a way to steal some games early on in order to stay in the race for a conference title. Following a disappointing home loss to Wyoming, the Falcons face arguably their biggest test of the season when they travel to Southern California to face the No. 16 San Diego St. Aztecs.
The Falcons are at their best on the defensive end of the court, holding their past six opponents under 70 points. Not surprisingly, this defensive effort has been critical in helping Air Force win five of its past six games. After missing six straight games following an injury against Gonzaga, leading scorer Michael Lyons returned to action in the loss to Wyoming. Lyons is the most talented offensive play for Air Force, averaging a team-high 15.6 ppg. Junior guard Mike Fitzgerald has the ability to stretch the defense, as he is shooting 44.8% from behind the arc.
San Diego St. enters this game on the heels of two impressive victories. The Aztecs followed up a thrilling home victory over UNLV with a 75-70 win over New Mexico at The Pit.
