2011 Military Bowl: Toledo Head Coach Tim Beckman Leading Candidate For Illinois Football Head Coach, According To Report

The Toledo Rockets might be without head coach Tim Beckman when the team takes on the Air Force Falcons in the 2011 Military Bowl on Dec. 28. Beckman is the leading candidate to take over for the fired Ron Zook, according to the Chicago Tribune. Beckman is scheduled to meet with his staff on Thursday; however, his press conference to discuss the Military Bowl is still scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Beckman took over Toledo in 2009 and has guided the team to a 21-16 record since then, including an 8-4 record this season. His team lost the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl last season and now he might need to wait for another year to pick up that bowl win. Illinois' interim head coach Vic Koenning is scheduled to be at the helm for the team's Dec. 31 appearance in the Kraft Hunger Bowl against the UCLA Bruins, a team with a 6-7 record and with an interim head coach.

Air Force saw head coach Troy Calhoun's name pop up in connection with the Texas A&M job, but those rumors died shortly thereafter.
