Conference Realignment: Big East Officially Announces Expansion, Will Invite Air Force, Boise State For Football Only, According To Report

On Tuesday, the Big East announced that it was expanding, but it has not yet publicly revealed which schools have received invitations. According to the Associated Press' Ralph D. Russo, the Air Force Falcons, the Boise St. Broncos and the Navy Midshipmen are three teams expected to receive football-only membership offers. This shouldn't come as any surprise since it has been floating in the ether for the last month or so.

SMU, Houston and Central Florida are expected to be offered full membership in the league, also not a surprise. With five of these six teams part of the Mountain West and Conference USA, these two conferences will now need to rethink how they will make their new super conference work.

The Big East will lose Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and West Virginia to the Big 12 in the next few years (or sooner if the schools can get out of the 2014 leave date). And TCU was set to join the Big East in 2012 but then defected to the Big 12 weeks ago.
