This is an experimental "Power Rankings" system that incorporates all of the Colorado sports teams we cover here at SB Nation Denver. Partly based on performance and partly based on the Fan Confidence Score, this (hopefully) weekly feature will rank the teams accordingly. All feedback is welcomed.
On The Outside Looking In
Colorado State
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: N/A
If we did have a Colorado State Rams blog here at SB Nation, I'm sure the Fan Confidence Score would be worse than CU's was last week. If you want to read more about how the Rams have fallen off a cliff the last few years, Jeremy Mauss has his latest feature article up on the travails of Colorado State.
Colorado Buffaloes (Football)
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 23
This Week's Fan Confidence Score: 52
What a difference a win after a loss makes! After a drubbing at the hands of Cal two weeks ago, the Buffs rebounded with a strong second half against the University of Hawaii. While the Buffs are 2-1 so far I want to see more than a win against Hawaii at home. The Buffs take on Georgia on Sat., Oct. 2 at home. The Bulldogs are 1-2 with a game against Miss. St. this weekend.
Denver Nuggets
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 47
This Week's Fan Confidence Score: 44
Carmelo Anthony trade rumors. Carmelo Anthony trade rumors. J.R. Smith choking incident closed. Carmelo Anthony trade rumors. Carmelo Anthony trade rumors. Let's just get the season underway and play some games.
The Top Five
5. Air Force
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Even though Air Force lost to Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., it was a close one. Oklahoma held off a late-charging Air Force offensive attack to win 27-24. It was Air Force's first loss of the season after winning against Northwestern State and BYU at home. The Falcons face the 1-2 Wyoming Cowboys this Saturday.
4. Colorado Rapids
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 63
This Week's Fan Confidence Score: 83
The Rapids pulled off a stunning 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution last weekend, and now go on the road to face Real Salt Lake this Saturday. The Rapids have 37 points and are currently holding one of the Wild Card spots. Still, it will take a whole lot more to put the Rapids above any of the remaining three teams.
3. Denver Broncos
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 65
This Week's Fan Confidence Score: 76
While the Broncos won a game on Sunday, a 1-year-old son lost hist father the next day. Kenny McKinley, a Broncos wide receiver, committed suicide on Monday. The Broncos will hold a private memorial service for Kenny McKinley on Friday evening.
The Broncos face the Colts this Sunday at Invesco Field @ Mile High.
2. Colorado Rockies
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 76
This Week's Fan Confidence Score:73
This team can be so frustrating at times. The Rockies can go on a 10-game winning streak, as they did Sept. 3-12, then drop two must-win games at home to the Padres, win two of three from the Dodgers, and then lose two games to the Diamondbacks. The Rockies' playoff chances are dwindling with each loss, but we all know the magic the Rockies have had recently in September. But for how long can the Rockies rely on September magic?
1. Colorado Avalanche
Last Week's Ranking: N/A
Last Week's Fan Confidence Score: 80
This Week's Fan Confidence Score: 81
The NHL is almost back as preseason games are underway. The Avalanche have a good, young core led by Matt Duchene (who can score some pretty sick goals), and, well, preseason always generates high hopes in a fan's team. The 2010-11 season is going to be exciting for the Avalanche.
