While it is a foregone conclusion that Auburn and Oregon will face each other in the BCS National Championship game in January, the Tigers can now lay claim to the top spot in this week’s AP poll. However, this will not help Auburn in the final BCS calculations as the AP poll is not used in the formula.
Only 11 points separate the No. 2 Ducks from Oregon. Wisconsin, Stanford, Ohio State, Michigan State and Arkansas round out the top eight. Oklahoma’s victory over Nebraska sent the Sooners up a spot to No. 9. Boise State took 10th.
Nevada, Missouri and Alabama all moved up in the rankings to 13th, 14th and 15th. Nebraska fell four spots to 17th. The Connecticut Huskies entered the AP poll at No. 25 after defeating the South Florida Bulls, 19-16, to capture the Big East title.
The Central Florida Golden Knights (10-3) were the last team out with 63 points. The Air Force Falcons (8-4) received one vote.
