ESPN decided to release the Week 13 BCS rankings early today because the MLS Cup Final between the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas starts at 8:30 p.m. ET, the usual time the latest standing are unveiled. It should come as no surprise that the BCS standings remained the same for the most part after the major polls also changed little this week.
The Oregon Ducks and the Auburn Tigers continue to control their destinies to play in the BCS Championship game. It should be noted, however, that all of the computer rankings except one favor Auburn. The one that favors Oregon also has TCU as the No. 1 team. While TCU had a bye week, the Boise State Broncos crushed the Fresno State Bulldogs, 51-0, and closed the gap with TCU just a bit. Last week, the two teams were separated by 0.0332 of a percentage point, but the Broncos trail by only 0.0135 now. TCU finishes its regular season this weekend against the 1-10 New Mexico Lobos. Boise State has the week off before it plays Utah State on Dec. 4. When all is said and done for the regular season, Boise State may emerge as the No. 3 BCS team.
Ohio State moved up to No. 8 after Nebraska lost to Texas A&M and dropped to No. 15. Michigan State jumped from No. 12 to No. 10, the best positive change inside the top 15. North Carolina State was the only new team to enter the BCS top 25 (No. 23).
