College Football Rankings, Week 12: Projected BCS Standings

New, 4 comments

This Saturday of college football went according to plan as all of the top 12 teams in last weeks BCS standings won and the three of the five ranked teams that lost came against another ranked team. The excitement was still there with many too close for comfort games form three of the top four teams, and as every college football Saturday has some cheesy name this week actually had one that made sense: Scare Saturday

TCU and Oregon managed to win by less then a touchdown and Auburn needed a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Georgia; all three of those opponents were unranked. Only Boise State was able to easily defeat their opponent, as they took out rival Idaho Friday night 52-14.

SB Nation's BCS Evolution has their projected top 15 and by their account was the most boring week of projecting the BCS standings to date:

1) Oregon Ducks
2) Auburn Tigers
3) TCU Horned Frogs
4) Boise St. Broncos
5) LSU Tigers
6) Stanford Cardinal
7) Wisconsin Badgers
8) Nebraska Cornhuskers
9) Alabama Crimson Tide
10) Ohio St. Buckeyes
11) Oklahoma St. Cowboys
12) Michigan St. Spartans
13) Arkansas Razorbacks
14) Missouri Tigers
15) Oklahoma Sooners

In my non-expert opinion on the BCS, I could see Boise State closing the gap, especially in the Harris and coaches poll, on TCU since Boise State was able to soundly defeat Idaho whereas TCU beat San Diego State by five. Plus, the difference between Boise State is only 10 points behind TCU in the coaches poll and only 35 points from the Harris poll, so a handful of people moving up Boise could put them in the third spot and in prime position to gain the automatic BCS bid from the non-automatic qualifying leagues.

The BCS standings will be released at 6:15 p.m. mountain time on ESPN's BCS Countdown show.
